The AutoDetect™
Syringe is an Automatic Loss-of-Resistance (LOR) Syringe,
which permits automatic detection of the Epidural and peritoneal
cavities. A coaxial compression spring under 20KPa tension is
released when the needle attached to the syringe reaches the
correct anatomical position. The syringe plunger is automatically
depressed by the
spring giving a visual confirmation to the clinician. This automatic
device thus frees both hands to manipulate the needle through
the tissues in one smooth movement without requiring frequent
stops to attempt to depress the syringe manually.

The AutoDetect™
Syringe is similar to a standard LOR syringe in many
ways, but the addition of a spring in the barrel of the syringe
retracts the plunger once there is a loss of resistance. |

There
are a number of advantages that the AutoDetect™
Syringe provides over existing approaches, including:
●
Reliable, swiftly and safely detects the
Epidural and Peritoneal cavities even for less-experienced practitioners.
●
Provides an objective endpoint, thereby eliminating the subjectivity
and the need for a good "feel" from existing procedures.
●
Reduces time for the detection procedure and provides immediate
visual evidence of the epidural space permitting the entire team
to confirm identification.
●
Standardisation of needle placement technique.
●
Permits the practitioner to use both hands to advance the needle
passing through ligaments instead of worrying about how much pressure
to put on the plunger.
●
Optimally sized constant-force compression spring designed to
minimise false positives.
●
Smooth, extremely low friction syringe action (works with air
and saline).
●
Cost effective and simple. |
